Fundraising for ICM

(a picture of me and my Mad Project group; missing: Erica Lam, Louise Ma)
Last Christmas, along with five of my classmates--Natalie So, Louise Ma, Rachelle Ng, Michelle Lee, and Erica Lam, we started a campaign to help the kids in Philippiens by selling candycanes and candy grams to both middle school and high schoolers.

For our Mad Project, we planned to sell candy canes and grams to those who would like to send them to their friends as Christmas presents. In the beginning, we faced some problems in selling a decent amount of candy canes and candy grams as we soon found out that high schoolers were not as enthusiastic in paying for their friends as we thought they would have been. So then for the first two days of selling candy canes during lunch, we only got around $200 of profit. It was sort of discouraging in the very beginning and we didn’t know if we would reach our goal of $1000.
Then, Natalie came up with a brilliant idea, which is part of the reason why we were so successful in coming up with more than $2000 of profit. Natalie decided to sell the candy canes during lunch for middle schoolers, hoping they would be more eager and generous in buying the candy canes. As a result, not only were we able to sell out all the candy canes we bought, but we had to restock and buy more candy canes.
This Candy Cane Sale was pretty fun and memorable. The purpose of selling these candy canes is to help those who are in need in Philippines, which is a place where Rachelle, Louise, Michelle and I all went to for last year’s week without walls trip. From the trip, I learnt that the people in Philippines really need our help and it will mean a lot to them if we donate a little sum of money, or just show them that we care for them. I believe this sale was a great success and I hope that my team will do it again soon for fun but not because we were made to do so.
